Entering its third season, Vermont Green FC is primed for another strong campaign when the USL League two season begins on May 18. Fan anticipation is building as the Green continues to grow soccer in Burlington, and on Tuesday, the club announced plans to further cultivate the sport.
Vermont Green FC will put together a women's team for an exhibition match against FC Laval, a member of Ligue 1 Quebec, on June 22 at 6 p.m.
"Knowing our community, we think this could be one of the biggest events of the summer," Green co-founder Matthew Wolff said in a statement.
The Burlington-based soccer team is hoping to use the exhibition game as a launching point towards a regular schedule for a women's team in the future. A women's soccer advisory board has been formed to aid in the development of the Green's team.
Former U.S. women's national team star Sam Mewis and current University of Vermont women's soccer head coach Kristi Huizenga are amongst those on the board.
This summer, the Green will feature a dearth of University of Vermont talent. Jill Brody, Laney Ross, Bailey Ayer, Maddy Cronin and Olivia White are among those announced on the roster.
Season ticket holder for the Green's USL League two schedule will automatically have access to the June 22 exhibition. Single-game tickets are available for purchase on Vermont Green FC's website.
