The government is shortly to review the green list of countries holidaymakers are allowed travel to without quarantining for summer holidays.

The green list for travel destinations where Brits can holiday without going into quarantine was originally expected to be updated on June 24, and a spokesperson for Number 10 confirmed yesterday that it would be updated by June 28, the Mirror reports.

The Prime Minister's official spokesman told reporters: "There is a three-week review point, so the next check point is coming up at the end of this month."

The spokesman added that he believed this would be no later than June 28.

Reports suggest that due to low infection rates, the following countries could be added to the green list:

Malta - case rate of just 7 per 100,000 people

The USA - case rate pf 31 per 100,000 people

Poland and Mexico - case rates of eight and 16 per 100,000 respectively

Finland - case rate of 14 per 100k

Holiday islands

The last review, on June 8, did not include the Canary or Balearic Islands but there are now widespread reports that holiday islands could be separated from mainland territories.

If so, the Canary Islands are a strong candidate to be included and the Balearic islands - from Menorca and Majorca to Ibiza - could also be introduced to the green list.

Italy (27 cases per 100k), Germany (24 per 100,000 people) and Jamaica (14 cases per 100,000) are also in the running.

Here is the current green list in full:

  • Israel
  • Gibraltar
  • Iceland
  • Faroe Islands
  • Brunei
  • Falkland Islands
  • Australia
  • New Zealand
  • Singapore
  • Saint Helena, Ascension and Tristan da Cunha
  • South Georgia and the South Sandwich Islands

The news comes as a Tory minister confirmed Brits who have had both Covid vaccinations could soon be allowed to travel to amber list countries without needing to self-isolate on return.

New plans being considered by the Government could pave the way for double-jabbed sunseekers to enjoy quarantine-free summer holidays at popular hotspots in Europe and the US.

The proposals would mean amber list nations become green for fully-vaccinated Brits, it was reported earlier this week.
